In light of the article, here are five things Nate suggests for healthy global engagement:
1. Talk to someone who will tell you the truth, not just what you want to hear.
2. Come under a trusted agency who will interview, assess, and equip you to serve cross-culturally.
3. Move abroad by a sending body – whether its a church, denomination, group of people – anyone who will offer support and encouragement along the way.
4. Work with locals that have invited you to be there. Don’t show up expecting to have all the answers. Know that others have been there before you and even more will come after you.
5. Be humble. Learn the culture you are going to be working in. You are not above anyone else.
