Myanmar Rebuild and Restore
SUMMARY
The Church of God in Mandalay, Myanmar is far more than a building. This church has a history of caring for one another, and for their neighbors, especially during challenging times. Following the March 2025 earthquake, the church community recognized and stepped fully into the opportunity to be a Light to hundreds of families around them. Now the global Church of God Movement has the opportunity to walk alongside them as they rebuild their building and restore their community.
COST
The goal of this project is to raise $70,000. This amount will cover the reconstruction the church building.

background
background
On March 28, 2025, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, followed by aftershocks that caused widespread devastation. The Church of God in Myanmar responded quickly and compassionately. In early April, a group of pastors and lay leaders from Yangon Church of God coordinated a two-truck convoy to deliver emergency relief to Mandalay. The aid—purchased by the local Church of God through partnership with Church of God Ministries Disaster Relief and World Relief—included rice, cooking oil, bottled water, sleeping mats with mosquito nets, soap, and raincoats for 500 families.
These emergency items were received and faithfully distributed by Pastor N and volunteers from the Mandalay Church of God, reaching over 500 families in both the church and surrounding community. A second delivery in mid-May included additional food supplies, solar lamps, and gasoline for another 200 displaced families still lacking support from other humanitarian agencies.
STRATEGY
The Church of God in Myanmar has long been a beacon of Hope in times of hardship. In 2023, the Mandalay church opened its doors to rural families displaced by violence—providing food, shelter, and compassion. That same spirit of service has guided their earthquake response. Volunteers have faithfully served as the hands and feet of Christ, ensuring that aid reaches the most vulnerable.
Despite the church building in Mandalay and pastoral home being declared a total loss, the community has continued to serve from the rubble. What remains of the structure’s bathroom and shower is now being used as critical hygiene station for displaced families. However, with the total demolition of this structure underway, a timely and effective reconstruction response is critical to meeting the needs of this church family today and for generations to come.
Vision
Vision
The vision of the Church of God in Mandalay is to be a Light in the darkness—a place of physical, emotional, and spiritual refuge. Even in the face of destruction, the church community has shown unwavering resilience. This project aims to rebuild not just a structure, but a renewed center of hope, faith, and service that will withstand future crises.
Demolition of the damaged church building and the laying of the new foundation has already begun. Global Strategy is now walking alongside the Mandalay church community to construct the second floor of the new building, ensuring that such is earthquake-resistant up to a magnitude of 8.0. The goal is to rebuild a strong, safe, and functional space that once again houses ministry, community, and care.
Global Partnerships
Global Partnerships
This reconstruction effort is being made possible through the generous support of the global Church of God Movement. Churches in Germany, the United States, Canada, and across Asia—including Hong Kong, India, Japan, Nepal, South Korea, and Taiwan—are already stepping forward with financial gifts. Global Strategy continues to invite individuals, churches, and mission partners to join in this journey of restoration and hope.
WALKING ALONGSIDE FAITHFUL, LOCAL LEADERS
Since 1998, Pastor N* has faithfully shepherded the Mandalay Church of God—witnessing the congregation grow from just two families in 1998 to nearly 200 families today. Alongside his devoted wife and son, he has cultivated a ministry rooted in compassion, resilience, and persistent hope.
Pastor N’s journey of faith began during his time in the Burmese military, where he encountered the life-changing message of Christ. After leaving the military in the mid-1990s, he met and married M, a former Buddhist nun. Together, they embraced the call to ministry, learning the foundations of the Bible under the mentorship of Rev. Matthew Hla Win, the founder of the Church of God in Myanmar.
Though he never attended formal seminary, Pastor N’s deep commitment to Scripture and his unwavering devotion to following Jesus have shaped him into a respected spiritual leader. Through decades marked by military oppression and economic hardship, he has faithfully shepherded his church, becoming a beacon of Light and care in Mandalay.
Today, Pastor N and M are known not only for their leadership but for their genuine Christian witness—lives lived with integrity, compassion, and unconditional love. The relief ministry which has taken place through Mandalay Church of God would not have been possible without the faithful service of Pastor N. We give thanks for him, his family, and our brothers and sisters in the Mandalay Church of God.
