Daily Bread for Haitian Families
SUMMARY
Haiti is facing a severe hunger crisis as ongoing violence and instability have disrupted access to food, healthcare, and essential services. This project is walking alongside local Church of God communities in Saintard—at the church, school, and hospital—as they care for the most vulnerable through regular food distribution, school meal programs, and malnutrition clinics. Together, these three places have become vital centers of hope, compassion, and resilience in the midst of crisis.
COST
The goal of this project is to raise $2,350 per month for the next two years.

Background
Background
Haiti’s crisis intensified after the July 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, deepening the country’s political fragility, economic instability, and security concerns. Armed gangs quickly filled the power void, gaining control of key infrastructure, roads, and neighborhoods in the capital city of Port-au-Prince, and beyond. With no elected officials in power and governance structures collapsing, gang violence has surged—targeting civilians, schools, and health facilities. This chronic instability has paralyzed essential services, forced hundreds of thousands to flee their homes, and largely cut off access to humanitarian aid. Amid this turmoil, Haiti’s already fragile economy deteriorated further, pushing the nation into one of its most severe crises in recent history.
The humanitarian impact has been devastating, with hunger and malnutrition reaching catastrophic levels. As of 2024, nearly half the population faced acute food insecurity, and more than 1.4 million Haitians were in the emergency phase of hunger (IPC Phase 4). Children have borne the brunt of the crisis: tens of thousands suffer from severe acute malnutrition, with limited access to treatment as clinics and aid workers face ongoing threats. School closures and displacement have also disrupted feeding programs that were lifelines for many children. With humanitarian corridors blocked and violence escalating, reaching affected communities—especially vulnerable children—has become increasingly difficult, leaving millions at risk without sustained international support.

“In spite of ongoing gang threats, the local Church of God defiantly worships in the face of danger. Behind locked gates, with guards watching the perimeters of the church yard, worship continues. The faith community continues to toil together to provide meals for each other, for students who can attend school and for the refugee community.”
