Philippines Tutoring Program
Summary
Education is a powerful pathway out of poverty, yet many children in the Philippines are falling behind due to limited access to academic support and foundational learning resources. The Philippines Tutoring Program seeks to address this challenge by providing targeted tutorial services that strengthen literacy, numeracy, and writing skills among vulnerable learners. Through academic assistance, mentorship, and Christian values formation, this program aims to equip students not only to succeed in school but also to grow in character and faith.
Rooted in the ministry of the local church, the tutoring program will offer a safe and supportive learning environment where children can receive personalized instruction and encouragement. By combining educational support with a Christ-centered approach, the program responds holistically to the academic and spiritual needs of learners, helping them build a stronger foundation for a hopeful and productive future.
Cost
The total project cost is $3,900.

background
background
Recent reading and learning assessments in the local community reveal that many children are struggling with basic educational skills—particularly reading comprehension, numeracy, and writing. These challenges are largely the result of weak educational foundations caused by poverty and a lack of access to supplemental academic support. As a result, many learners are falling behind their grade levels, which negatively affects both their confidence and long-term opportunities.
Without timely intervention, these educational gaps are likely to widen, increasing the risk of academic failure and social marginalization. Recognizing both the urgency of the need and the opportunity for ministry, the local church has identified tutoring and mentorship as a practical and compassionate response—one that affirms the God-given potential of every child while addressing real barriers to learning..

STRATEGY
The Philippines Tutoring Program will begin as a pilot initiative serving approximately 50 learners through small-group tutorial sessions. Church volunteers will be mobilized to assist tutors, strengthening the ministry aspect of the program while helping to keep operational costs manageable. Instruction will focus on core academic areas, supported by structured learning materials and basic classroom equipment. The program will also integrate mentorship and values formation, creating an environment where students are supported academically and nurtured spiritually.
Project funds will be used to furnish and equip the tutorial space with essential classroom resources and learning materials. These include student supplies such as notebooks, pens and pencils, reading books, math workbooks, and language arts and grammar workbooks, along with printer paper and ink to support lesson preparation. Tables and chairs will be provided to accommodate small-group learning, along with a whiteboard, classroom fans, a computer for tutor use, and a printer to support instruction and administration.
VISION
The vision of the Philippines Tutoring Program is to see children grow in knowledge, confidence, and faith—equipped to succeed in school and empowered to pursue brighter futures. By strengthening foundational academic skills at an early stage, the program seeks to interrupt cycles of poverty and educational disadvantage.
Beyond academics, the program aspires to be a visible expression of God’s love in the community. Through consistent care, encouragement, and Christian witness, the tutoring ministry will help shape young lives grounded in both learning and faith, preparing students to contribute positively to their families, churches, and society.
“Education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty.”

KINGDOM PARTNERSHIPS
This project is made possible through the leadership and active involvement of the local church, which serves as both the spiritual foundation and operational backbone of the program. Church members will contribute through volunteer service, oversight, and pastoral support, ensuring that the initiative remains community-centered and ministry-driven.
Additional partnerships are being developed with a nearby public elementary school, where connections through church members working in the education sector allow for the identification and referral of learners most in need. These relationships strengthen the credibility and reach of the program and foster collaboration between the church and the broader educational community for the benefit of children and families.
FUTURE PLANS
To promote sustainability, the program plans to introduce a minimal monthly student contribution, while remaining flexible for families who are unable to pay. The local church will continue to cover key recurring costs, including tutors’ honorarium, venue maintenance, and monitoring and evaluation activities.
A simple but intentional monitoring and evaluation system will track academic progress through baseline and follow-up assessments, attendance records, and values formation indicators, with regular reporting to ensure integrity and effectiveness. As the pilot phase is evaluated, the church hopes to strengthen and potentially expand the program, increasing the number of learners served and deepening its impact as resources allow.
Through prayerful planning, responsible stewardship, and strong partnerships, the Philippines Tutoring Program seeks to grow into a sustainable ministry that nurtures minds, shapes character, and reflects Christ’s care for children.
