Hope and a Future Initiative

—walking alongside the local church in Botswana—

SUMMARY

Across the world, many of our brothers and sisters long for meaningful work but lack the resources to overcome barriers such as training costs, small business start-up expenses, or access to employers. The Hope and a Future (H&F) Initiative connects global partners with individuals in need of opportunity. Through seed grants, vocational training, and Christian business mentoring, this initiative helps participants—including single mothers—take practical steps toward sustainable employment and stability for their families.

COST

The project seeks to raise $3,225 to launch the Hope and a Future Initiative in Botswana and $6,000 to support the first cohort of participants.

Project # 42.30013

BACKGROUND

Employment remains one of the greatest challenges in many developing regions. Child sponsorship programs have long provided vital support for young people, yet adults still lack the tools they need to provide for themselves. In Botswana’s Northwest region, unemployment is officially 26%, but in reality, far fewer households enjoy a steady income. Single mothers, in particular, face daily struggles to secure food, education, and basic necessities for their children. More than 80% of births in Botswana are to single mothers, and this reality is a pressing concern for both the church and the wider community. By focusing on this vulnerable group, the church can help entire families move beyond cycles of instability while pointing them to the hope of Christ.

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS

The program provides seed money for entrepreneurial startups, but never in direct cash. Churches purchase necessary items—such as school tuition, business licenses, or equipment—on behalf of participants.

  • Local church leadership teams and trained Operations Executives oversee the process, ensuring accountability and biblical business ethics.
  • Participants receive mandatory training in Christian business practices, financial stewardship, and either entrepreneurship or job acquisition skills.
  • Donors are connected to stories and updates from Botswana through social media and Church of God networks, fostering ongoing prayer and support.

“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.” Corinthians 3:6 (NIV)

Vision

Our vision is to see individuals and families move from daily insecurity to stability and hope. We seek to create opportunities for participants to provide for their households, to learn and practice Christian business principles, and to become examples of faithful discipleship in the workplace. When one person is empowered, multiple families benefit—and the whole community sees the hope of God’s Kingdom.

TIMEFRAME

The Hope and a Future Initiative launches and unfolds in phases:

  • Launch & Setup (Months 1–2): Local leadership teams are formed, an Operations Executive is appointed, and operational guidelines are finalized.
  • Participant Selection (Months 3–6): Churches introduce the program to members, applications are received, and the first five participants are chosen.
  • Training & Grant Distribution (Months 6–12): Clients complete mandatory training in Christian business ethics, financial stewardship, and either entrepreneurship or job acquisition. Once training and fundraising are complete, grants are distributed for educational or business needs.
  • Ongoing Support (Months 13-18): Regular check-ins with participants, leadership meetings, and donor updates to provide accountability and encouragement.

“By helping one person to advance their career, we are often providing for multiple family units. This is more than employment—it is an opportunity to bring lasting hope.”
