Hebrews chapter 11 is a powerful reminder of the importance of faith—not just a spoken faith, but even more so a faith of action. This passage, known as the “Hall of Faith,” presents examples of people throughout history who lived by faith and achieved great things through their trust in God. Hebrews 11:6 is my favorite verse. It teaches us that “without faith it is impossible to please God,” a principle that resonated deeply in my life when I decided to move with my family to another city to start a new church.

The decision to move wasn’t easy. Leaving behind our friends, family, and the place we had called home for years filled our hearts with uncertainty. Doubts began to arise, and with them, fear. Will we have the necessary support? Will we be able to attract a community? These questions, laden with anxiety, threatened to paralyze us. Yet in the midst of that emotional storm, faith became our support.

The faith God requires is not the absence of fear, but the ability to move forward despite it. Like Abraham, who left his land without knowing where he was going, we too took a step into the unknown, trusting in the promise that God was with us. That trust was what allowed us to leave our doubts behind and embrace the future before us.

My experience moving as a family to start a new church has shown me that faith is not a path free of fear and doubt, but rather a constant decision to trust God.
