The Shelter, Cuttack, India: See it for Yourself!

You’ve heard the stories. You’ve seen the pictures. Nothing can compare, however, to seeing it for yourself. The Shelter in Cuttack, India, has protected the lives of countless girls for more than a hundred years. Church of God Ministries is excited to make it possible for you to visit the Shelter this coming February for the experience of a lifetime. Project Link connects your passion, for ministry and missions, with vital mission projects of the Church of God. After a year of fighting against human trafficking, it’s time to see the faces of those we’re fighting for!

ShelterSign up for the upcoming trip, scheduled for February 11–21, and expect to visit the Shelter with its directors Asim and Mamata Das. There will be opportunities to build relationships with the residents of the Shelter and see how God is using the ministry to protect, disciple, and empower young girls who could otherwise end up on the streets. You’ll see the work that is being done on a new dormitory to expand the capacity of the Shelter. In addition, you’ll visit other local ministries carrying on the work of our Lord. “When you return from a trip like this, it’s hard not be impacted by what you have seen and heard,” Andrew Gale, Project Link and missions experiences coordinator, explains. “I know of multiple people who have been to the Shelter on a regular basis because of how impacting their first experience was.”

The_Shelter_building_FORWEBOne thing is certain: reading about it, hearing about it, and seeing the pictures cannot come close to the power of being there. “First and foremost, nothing will change your heart like hearing someone’s story firsthand,” Andrew explains. “Sitting down, and looking into the eyes of someone who tells you their journey to Christ, is a beautiful experience wherever you are. It is even more powerful in the presence of people who have experienced so much. On top of that, India is a full-sensory experience—the lively streets, the distinct sounds, and the vibrant smells make being there something that can only be lived.”

Don’t worry about the logistics. We’ll take care of that for you. But, if you’re planning on joining us, there are a few things you need to know, especially if you’ve never been out of the county. “The first step is to get a passport, and you should get on it!” Andrew explains. “Outside of that, we will do all the training and pre-trip preparation you need. We meet to discuss everything from the specifics of the trips, like shots and luggage, to the importance of a biblical foundation of mission. We know that traveling to visit places can change your life, but we also know that preparation for trips allows people to enjoy their time, and not be as distracted by the cultural changes they will experience.”

So, step out of the boat, stretch your faith, and develop a global perspective with us in India this February! Contact Andrew Gale at [email protected] or 800-848-2464, ext. 2141, for details and to make arrangements.
