Their Ministry Focus
Tim and Josie have partnered with the Church of God in Malawi to provide pastoral education and training, from the pastors who come to centralized trainings to those who minister in remote villages. The Vickeys are also applying their considerable business and education backgrounds to helping the church develop better options for education, literacy programming, and training in trade skills to provide long-term sustainability.
Tim and Josie Vickey first went to Malawi as special assignment missionaries to fill a gap for eight months. That experience led to a long-term assignment with Global Strategy. Today, they serve as partners alongside the Church of God in Malawi, ministering out of their education and experience as educators, business managers, and pastors. They are collaboratively resourcing the church in Malawi to pursue new opportunities in ministry.
Tim and Josie Vickey previously ministered in a variety of mission settings through short-term assignments in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela. They graduated from Anderson University School of Theology in 2001, Tim with a master of divinity degree and Josie with a master of theological studies degree. While in seminary, they served as interim pastors at Park Place Church of God in Anderson, Indiana, until 2002, when they accepted the pastoral position at Aina Haina Church of God in Honolulu, Hawaii, where they served for eleven years.
Prior to seminary, Tim spent fifteen years in business and industry and Josie worked as an elementary school teacher. Their passion is to use their experience and education to minister, teach, disciple, and equip leaders with the word of God as they share his love.
By partnering with leaders in the Church of God in Malawi, the Vickeys are mentoring pastors with quality biblical leadership training using the theological education by extension program. The leaders are equipped to mentor and empower the village pastors they work with as they live out the gospel message.
The Vickeys are passionate about providing an outstanding education to village children who attend under-resourced schools. The Church of God in Malawi is seeking to develop an educational program where the children will be taught in a well-resourced Christian environment to truly give them a bright hope and a future.
One of the goals is to provide people with business, trade, and carpentry skills to prepare them for sustainable living opportunities. Training in computer programming, woodworking, welding, masonry, farming, tailoring, and handling machinery will enhance their potential for full-time employment.
