Tom & Jean McCrackenSpecial Assignment Missionaries to Brazil

Their Ministry Focus

The McCrackens continue to work alongside the Church of God in Amazônia in northern Brazil as new missionaries Jonathan and Beth Todd learn the language and begin to take over mentoring and teaching young leaders in spiritual and theological formation. They also partner with local congregations and new church plants to encourage healthy church development.

Their Story

Tom and Jean have extensive experience as both pastors and missionaries. For almost 40 years they served as missionaries in the Caribbean and Brazil, as well as serving pastorates in Illinois and Indiana for twelve years. Their experience has equipped them well to minister to the needs of Brazilian church leaders in spiritual and theological formation.

The McCrackens began their missionary service in Trinidad and Tobago and Grenada in 1967, and worked on the team that established Diego Martin Church near Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. In 1974, they moved to Brazil, where they taught at Boa Terra in Curitiba. In the 1980s, they were part of the Brazilian-American church-planting team in Sao Paulo Advance.

In the early 1990s, Brazilian church leaders Oreste and Marlene Greiner and the McCrackens worked together as a joint team to establish the Belém church and the Belém Helping Hand Child Care Ministry (in cooperation with Dayspring Church, Cincinnati, Ohio).

Tom and Jean both continue to be active in state ministry with Church of God organizations in Ohio. Strasburg, Ohio, has been their home base while in the States. They plan to continue teaching until new missionaries Jonathan and Beth Todd have completed language school and begin their assignment.
