A.One.8 is a three-week discipleship training designed to connect students with cross-cultural learning and ministry engagement.
A.One.8 Training Highlights:
Ages: Juniors in high school or older
For A.One.8 2017, students will be in Lake Wales, Florida for one week before going on an overseas experience (at one of two locations to be decided based on team interest). The experience is broken down into three components: on-site learning, practical ministry engagement, and a foreign ministry site visit.
During the first two weeks in Lake Wales, students will train with Global Strategy staff member Andrew Gale and Spread the Word director Tami Byrd on the campus of Warner University. Students will learn about biblical foundations of mission, cultural anthropology, leadership, and basic language learning for the overseas experience.
During the week of education, they will live at the h.e.a.r.t. village, a simulated third-world experience, located about a mile from Warner’s campus. This will allow them to experience the challenges that are faced by those living and working in rural, remote parts of the world.
Practical Ministry Engagement
As a part of the on-site learning experience, the students will also partner with Lake Wales Care Center, a faith based, community service organization engaged in community development in Lake Wales. The LWCC is involved in a wide range of ministry including transitional housing, free clinics, community kitchens and gardens, thrift stores, and youth programming.
Foreign Ministry Site Visit
The final component of the experience will be a site visit to a global Church of God location. Right now, we have plans to be in Costa Rica and Tanzania, depending on the size of the team. In Costa Rica, students will work with national leadership on a youth event and engage in ministry with the Church of God. In Tanzania, students will work with Aldersgate School, a K-12 Christian school that has over 1,000 students and engage in ministry with the Church of God.
A.One.8 training is a done through a partnership between Spread the Word and Global Strategy of Church of God Ministries.
