A.One.8 is a three-week discipleship training designed to connect students with cross-cultural learning and ministry engagement.
A.One.8 Training Highlights:
Ages: Juniors in high school or older
For A.One.8 2017, students will be in Lake Wales, Florida and the Dominican Republic. The experience is broken down into three components: on-site learning, practical ministry engagement, and a foreign ministry site visit.
During the first two weeks in Lake Wales, students will train with Global Strategy staff member Andrew Gale on the campus of Warner University. Students will learn about biblical foundations of mission, cultural anthropology, world religions, and basic Spanish.
In the second week of their time, they will live at the h.e.a.r.t. village, a simulated third-world experience, located about a mile from Warner’s campus. This will allow them to experience the challenges that are faced by those living and working in rural, remote parts of the world.
Practical Ministry Engagement
While living at h.e.a.r.t., students will serve with the Lake Wales Care Center, a faith based, community service organization engaged in community development in Lake Wales. The LWCC is involved in a wide range of ministry including transitional housing, free clinics, community kitchens and gardens, thrift stores, and youth programming.
Foreign Ministry Site Visit
The final component of the experience will be a site visit to the Dominican Republic to work with the Church of God. The Church of God in the DR is expanding with young pastors leading churches across the country. Students will get to engage in dialogue and visit at least three churches in different regions (Santo Domingo, La Romana, and Jarabacoa) as well as visit the local International Justice Mission office which works to end human trafficking. During their time they will also visit important cultural sites and gain a better understanding of life in the DR.
A.One.8 training is a done through a partnership between Spread the Word and Global Strategy of Church of God Ministries.
